History

Our History
Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center has a long and rich history The Sisters of Providence opened St Elizabeth Hospital in August of 1891 It became the first and only hospital in Yakima and carried that distinction for 59 years

St Elizabeths grew from performing their first surgery on a kitchen table in a seven room house to completing the first nuclear medical lab in Central Washington in the 1960s The Sisters of Providence continued to provide the community with excellent healthcare for years to come

After years of losing money and in danger of closing a new chapter of history began when Providence Yakima Medical Center was sold to Health Management Associates HMA in 2003 Although met with some resistance HMA has put nearly 20 million dollars into revitalizing and updating Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center into the outstanding facility it is today With several large projects on the horizon HMA will continue to support advances at Yakima Regional With a combination of compassion experience and technology we strive for excellence in healthcare

As we continue to grow and change we hope that you will become a part of our history by choosing Yakima Regional for all of your health care needs
