History
Serving Troup County for Over 70 Years

From our beginning as the 65bed CityCounty Hospital to our current status as the premier health care provider for the West Georgia and East Alabama communities we have never lost sight of our mission to provide exceptional compassionate health care

1937 The 65bed CityCounty Hospital is founded to provide high quality health care services to families in Troup County

1975 Our name is changed to West Georgia Medical Center to reflect our growing role as a regional health care provider

1985 The US Health Care Financing Administration designates West Georgia Medical Center as a rural referral center one of only 211 such centers throughout the nation

1996 Our services and continuum of care have greatly expanded and our name is changed to West Georgia Health System to reflect the wide variety of services offered

2000 We open the Vernon Woods Retirement Community an independent and assistedliving community for senior adults

2004 West Georgia Health System receives a Quality and Patient Safety Award for improving patient safety and medical outcomes

2005 West Georgia Health System and its senior management team are recognized for being one of 100 hospitals making the greatest progress in improving hospitalwide performance over five years 20002004

2008 West Georgia Home Care is named a 2008 Compass Award Winner demonstrating the most improvement in overall patient satisfaction over a twoyear period

2009 We began construction of a new Womens Center offering all outpatient diagnostics including digital mammography

2009 We rebranded to West Georgia Health and introduced a new brand positioning and tagline that focuses on our mission of putting patients first
