About Us
Piedmont Geriatric Hospital PGH is a 135bed geropsychiatric hospital operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services DBHDS It is the only Virginia state facility that exclusively treats elderly persons 65 years of age who are in need of inpatient treatment for mental illness meet the requirements for voluntary or involuntary admission as determined by their mental health center CSB and do not have a medical condition that requires priority treatment in an acute care hospital

For the hospital to be recognized as a leader in the treatment of the mentally ill elderly as a model facility a teaching center and a resource for other facilities It will be seen as an indispensable component of the state system of communitybased services and as the most efficient provider of geropsychiatric services
