A Reputation for Excellence
In 1958 the Benedictine Sisters of Yankon South Dakota purchased a 26acre campus and three old frame buildings to open a long term care facility for the elderly Known as the quotMadonna Homequot the facility began early to earn its reputation for excellence first as a geriatric facility and later as a physical medicine and rehabilitation center

Madonnas history has been distinguished by innovation and the development of programs and services which have consistently anticipated national and regional trends

In 1966 Madonna received the nations first Medicare check and began to offer rehabilitation services The goal was to bring individuals to the highest level of independence and give them the opportunity to live outside an institution

Over the past 50 years Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital has evolved to a health complex that treats children and adults with physical disabilities helps injured workers return to work quickly and develops collaborative relationships with hospitals in the region to help those with disabilities closer to home Madonnas Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering is dedicated to finding ways to improve medical rehabilitation through the use of new methods and technologies
