Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital promotes and provides personalized compassionate health care services for the people in Merrick County and the surrounding area

History

With a donation from Mr Heber Hord the hospital assumed a new name and a new location in 1945 and stood where Litzenbergs assisted living facility Merrick Manor now stands

Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital became a reality in 1959 with money from the Lizzie Litzenberg pictured above Trust and Hill Burton funds Mr M A Larson a long time Central City businessman with a heart felt desire to see the community grow and develop personally dontated the land for the entire hospital project

When the hospital was built there were 24 acute beds eight bassinets in the nursery and a delivery and operating room The facility grew again in 1963 with the addition of seven private rooms three pediatric beds and two fourbed wards

Our Long Term Care wing was constructed in 1975 and is licensed for 46 resident beds including six private rooms and 20 double rooms

Litzenberg was designated a Critical Access Hospital in June 2000 and as such is licensed for 25 beds in acute care Many changes have occurred inside the facility to meet the demands for changing technology and equipment as well as adequate care space With the foresight of an aggressive Board of Trustees and County Board of Supervisors and the generosity and support of caring employees and friends of the hospital Litzenberg completed a fiveyear 15 million capital campaign project that began in 2000

The construction consisted of a 4000 square foot outpatient clinic and a new main entrance along with office reception and administration area renovation and nearly 4000 square feet of needed Long Term Care lobby dining and activity space Also included in the campaign project was a new 1800 square foot addition to the northwest corner of the facility for maintenance space and storage

In 2004 an ambulance entrance hazmat shower maintenance garage emergency waiting room and additional space for Medical Records were added to the west side of the hospital There were also renovations to the mammography area and to our outpatient procedure areas

Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital promotes and provides personalized compassionate healthcare services for the people in Merrick County and the surrounding area Quality care along with ongoing recruitment of physicians and professional staff our foresight and adaptation to changes in meeting current medical needs and our commitment to the communities we serve continue to make Litzenberg a leader in rural health care in central Nebraska
