Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south MiamiDade community since 1940 when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10bed hospital east of Krome Avenue Today Baptist Health Homestead Hospital is a modern fullservice 147bed facility with private rooms Services include an Emergency Center with 44 treatment rooms and a trauma room a separate Childrenrsquos Emergency Center a critical care unit and comfortablyappointed birthing suites Homestead Hospital is also home to Baptist Health Rehabilitation a hospitalbased acute inpatient rehabilitation unit featuring individualized programs for the care of adult and pediatric patients ages 4 and older who are facing a critical or disabling injury or illness In addition the ldquoHealthy Homesteadrdquo vision is to be a community where people prioritize health and wellbeing Working with partners in South Dade the goal is to inspire and empower local residents to improve their nutrition fitness and overall understanding of wellness To assist with this effort the Grow2Heal garden on campus grows organic food that is served to patients visitors and staff and is also used to educate the community through a number of initiatives
