MISSION STATEMENT
To provide the necessary facilities equipment medical staff and financial resources required to deliver the highest quality inpatient and outpatient services for the diagnosis and treatment of heart lung and vascular disease within the Centers service area The Center realizes its obligation to provide the highest degree of patient safety and privacy and to that end we will embrace and advocate all initiatives which will enable us to attain these goals The Center will provide these medical and surgical treatments to patients without distinction as to race gender sexual preference creed color religion age national origin handicap or ability to pay Inpatient and outpatient services are to be provided on a timely basis and consistent with costeffectiveness and financial responsibility

History
Deborah Heart and Lung Center was established in 1922 as a tuberculosis sanitarium and pulmonary center
Legend has it that Deborahs rural Burlington County location was key to recovery because of therapeutic pine barren air In reality thousands of TB patients were medically treated and successfully cured by Deborah physicians
With the development of antibiotic medications which eradicated TB Deborah began expanding its focus to other chest diseases In 1958 Dr Charles Bailey a pioneer in heart surgery performed the first open heart surgery at Deborah The specialty of cardiac diseases was immediately embraced and Deborah evolved into the only cardiac and pulmonary specialty hospital in NJ
