History

Our history
Craig General Hospital is located on a piece of the homestead of Mr and Mrs W F Friend who donated the land in the early 1960s Funds for construction came from a federal HillBurton grant of 245000 and a Craig County bond issue of 250000 At its opening in 1963 Craig General Hospital operated with 32 beds and 70 employees contributing a 149647 annual payroll to the community Today the facility is licensed for 62 beds and employs more than 330 people with a 5 million payroll

Craig General Hospital is operated by a public trust authority the Craig County Hospital Authority whose board is appointed by the county commissioners Craig General Hospital is a selfsustaining notforprofit hospital

Realizing the importance of having quality health care close to home Craig General Hospital recently expanded its services to include three facilities near the shores of Grand Lake at Langley and Monkey Island as well as clinics in Miami and Welch
