History

At Carson Tahoe weve been meeting the needs of our community for decades and while a lot has changed since we first opened our doors in 1949 one thing hasnt our commitment to providing exceptional healthcare to our region in a stateoftheart healing environment that puts patients first

It all started in the late 1940s when Carson City was a small town of 2500 people It was a charming community with treelined residential streets and only one paved road Carson Street

It was a time when doctors made house calls at all hours of the night often arriving in slippers and a coat over their pajamas if minor surgery was required it was often performed at the patients home

In 1949 however things changed Thanks to the generous donations of the community and of Major Max C Fleischmann CarsonTahoe Hospital opened its doors to serve Carson City a town that up until then had been located 30 miles away from any other hospital

The first hospital cost 80000 to build and was staffed by one doctor three nurses an Xray technologist laboratory technologist a cook and a janitor The hospitals first patient Robert Clark called it more like a home than a hospital

With the expansion of Carson City a new and larger hospital became a necessity and on July 11 1967 groundbreaking ceremonies for a new CarsonTahoe Hospital took place But on August 26 1968 before the opening of the new hospital the original hospital caught fire and burnt to the ground The construction company building the new hospital was willing to speedup work and the new hospital opened its doors in November 1968

Today weve evolved into a progressive technologically advanced healthcare leader in northern Nevada Weve set new standards in services including women and childrens cardiac rehabilitation surgical outpatient and cancer services and weve made recruiting top doctors a priority In fact our hospital medical staff has grown to over 240 boardcertified physicians representing more than 35 medical specialties

But were not content to just rest on our laurels Thats why were constantly moving onward and upward with added services new treatments and continued research Together with the support of our community staff and volunteers were leading the region toward better health every day
McDonalds not a wise choice for hospitals

Hospitals are places where wellness and health are supposed to be beneficial to promote a longer and healthier life When you walk into a hospital you expect to see healthy places to eat and if not that then a cafeteria with low sodium foods If you put hospitals and fast food restaurants together it is kind of a contradiction promoting health yet...
