Brookings Health System houses a 49bed hospital and 79bed nursing home Brookview Manor

The Health System also includes Brookhaven Estates which provides congregate living in an independent setting

Brookings Health System is a nonprofit cityowned health system that offers the community a full range of inpatient outpatient surgery home health and extended care services

A nine member Board of Trustees serves without pay and assumes overall responsibility for the facility As defined by city ordinance each Board member is appointed to a threeyear term Six members are city residents and the other three members reside outside the city limits but are all Brookings County residents






History

1907 Brookings Hospital begins operation of a 21bed facility

1935 City of Brookings purchases Brookings Hospital

1964 A 61bed hospital was built in the current location at 300 22nd Avenue

1971 Brookview Manor was built

1989 Extensive renovation and expansion starts taking place in the facility

2000 Brookings Hospital and Brookview Manor completed a 42 million
remodeling and expansion project This project added a new helicopter
landing pad in addition to a renovation of the operating room radiology and
environmental service areas

Construction included the building of a new 5500 square foot addition for
Home HealthHEARTHHospice services information management systems and
Administration offices Additional parking spaces were added to better serve
our patients residents and visitors

2004 Brookhaven Estates which provides congregate living in an independent
setting opens

2007 Brookings Health System develops new brand identity and launches new
Web site

2008 Brookings Health System launches Meditech Health Information Technology

2008 Brookings Health System logo wins 2008 Aster Gold Award and receives
Merit Award from Healthcare Marketing Report advertising awards
