The philosophy of Charlotte Straker is quotcare according to needquot Residents are actively encouraged to enter into the spirit of the local community and to enjoy a sense of freedom and control over their lives This approach is valued all the more by residents safe in the knowledge that when the need arises the highest standards of care are available

An inability to pay is not a bar to entry and quotcare according to needquot emphasises our thinking and approach We exist only to provide the type and standard of care we offer and residents are from a mixed background of private and social service funding

Our residents enjoy a natural homely environment according selfdetermination and dignity Members of staff respect their confidentiality Visitors are welcome at any time in the privacy of single rooms the day room and in the summer the front terrace with seating and sunshades is an ideal place to chat and make the most of its South facing position We encourage residents to join their families for stays outside the home whenever possible and to pursue their own personal religious and political beliefs

History

History
Charlotte Straker first opened to residents in the autumn of 1992 Following the closure of the local cottage hospital the local community were determined to maintain a care home facility in Corbridge It is a registered charity a Company limited by guarantee and a dual registered residential and nursing home

In the last few years an extensive renovation programme has provided 17 single residential rooms with en suite facilities and 11 single nursing rooms some with en suite facilities all meeting the rigorous standards set by the local Authority and the Care Quality Commission CQC

Charlotte Straker also provides 3 GP beds and 3 Palliative Care beds in the nursing wing for the use of GP practices in Tynedale These beds are commissioned by Northumberland Care Trust and the Corbridge Medical Group provides medical cover for these beds

The standards of care we provide are regulated by CQC and we are inspected by them on a frequent basis with a report being issued after each inspection The reports are public documents and are available to residents carers and relatives at wwwcqcorguk

Charlotte Straker also has eight bungalows in the grounds together with two flats in the main house allowing their tenants to live independently whilst enjoying care and assistance when needed

The house sits in wellmaintained grounds on the edge of Corbridge recognised as the one of the prettiest villages in the Tyne Valley It is just a short walk to the many facilities of the village including shops a library churches hairdressers doctors and dentists Corbridge has its own railway station on the Newcastle to Carlisle line and a regular bus service to Hexham Newcastle and the Metro Centre
