Named after the fourth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Ram Das the founder of holy city of Amritsar the Institute of Medical Sciences amp Research was started in the year 1997 The first batch passed out in December 2002 The Institute is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot The MBBS degree is duly recognized by the Medical Council of India vide letter No MCI3441 2002Med30334 dated 31st December 2002 and Government of India Ministry of Health amp Family Welfare vide letter No V1101572002MEPolicyI dated 23rd January 2003

The Institute is coming up fast at the AmritsarMehta Road with a sprawling new campus in about 33 acres of land Presently it has got sanction for an intake of 150 students for the MBBS course annually vide Letter No MCI3712011Med8724 dated 07052011 The Institute has separate hostels for boys and girls

A magnificent fourstorey institute building was completed in March 2000 at a cost of Rs 16 Crores wherein the offices of the DirectorPrincipal and Registrar besides a 400seat capacity air conditioned conference hall with audio system on each seat and a 1000seat capacity multipurpose auditorium all pre and paraclinical departments four Lecture theaters of 150 seat capacity each and the Central Library are located

An ultra modern 992bed new hospital building has been constructed within the new campus of the Medical Institute and is expected to be functional soon with the latest facilities required of a modern hospital in various specialities and superspecialities at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crores

The clinical teaching of medical students is conducted at Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital Vallah This hospital is having all the latest equipments and facilities for 150 MBBS admissions Electricity supply within the campus is through the Punjab State Electricity Board In addition the Institute has installed high power generators There is roundtheclock uninterrupted electricity supply within the campus including the hostels and residential premises

At the new Campus a Cancer Hospital named Sri Guru Ram Das Rotary Cancer Hospital has started functioning for Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy by a latest Cobalt Unit Service of Brachy therapy has also been started for which equipment and building are already in position

After commissioning of the new hospital this Institute is now having 150 MBBS admissions and also postgraduate courses in several clinical paraclinical and basic subjects for which space equipment and staff have already been sufficiently placed in position The Punjab Government and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences have already done respective inspections and have granted NOC for starting these courses The Medical Council of India has also completed the process of inspections for the postgraduate courses and these courses have already been started

The Campus is guarded by a strong security team consisting of exarmy personnel under the administrative supervision of an officer of the rank of a Lt Colonel Retd The Institute has its own fleet of buses and cabs for carrying students and the staff between the Institute and the city to and fro
