CDC amp RC was started in 2001 at Sree Renga Hospital premises to cater mainly to the lower socio economic group of people in the villages around Chengalpattu which is about 60 kms from Chennai city in Tamilnadu

Chengalpattu is a town inhabited by middle income and lower middle income groups of persons There are more than 100 small villages and 10 small towns in the ambit of 30 kms from Chengalpattu Inhabitants are mostly agriculturists small artisans and traders Their income is very meagre Awareness of health problems among this rural population is low amp health is given the least priority due to socio economic reasons

Due to our changing lifestyles Diabetes which was once considered a problem associated with affluence is now found in the people belonging to the lower socio economic group the disadvantaged underpriviledged in the villages Hence to create awareness to educate people and to meet all the needs of the Diabetic patients under one roof the Chengalpattu Diabetic Care and Research Centre was established
