Description

Knowing the great need for medical care in his native India Britishtrained surgeon Stephen Alfred felt God calling him to return to Thane India to address this need In 1992 he returned from the United Kingdom to practice privately in Thane bringing with him the dream of eventually starting a hospital to minister to the areas many people With much prayer and support his dream of creating a hospital to provide excellent care to the needy while showing Christs love for all slowly became a reality

In February of 1997 the first phase of hospital construction was complete The twostory Lok Hospital was born The first floor consisted of a minor operating theatre including a full range of endoscopic equipment X Ray Ultrasound Electrocardiogram Electroencephalogram EEG and Pulmonary function test facilities a major operating theatre an outpatient department with seven consultation rooms The second floor included wards with a total capacity of 28 beds

Construction of two additional floors began in 1998 and was completed in 1999 Lok Hospital as it stands today has expanded to include a 6bed intensive care unit that first treated patients in January 1999 a sixbed neonatal intensive care unit that heard its first newborn cry in August of 2001 a haemodialysis suite administrative offices a medication dispensary and eight additional ward beds Another 4 beds were added for inpatient treatment in 2007 Thus making it into a total of 56 beds
