Comtrust Groups base hospital at Calicut was established in the year 1999 by Comtrust Charitable Trust which is a registered Charitable Trust engaged in charitable activities since year 1977 It is the First full fledged Speciality Eye Hospital functioning in North Kerala erstwhile Malabar
Being essentially a charitable organization the emphasis has always been to provide QUALITY EYE CARE to the common man at affordable prices and to offer comprehensive eye care including surgeries FREE OF CHARGE to the poor
Today although several other Speciality eye hospitals are established in North Kerala our Base hospital at Calicut is still the leading Eye Hospital with maximum number of patients registered in OP as well as no of surgeries conducted
Comtrust Group has now embarked up on the task of establishing separate smaller hospital units in the northern districts of Kerala State so as to serve the middle class and poor sections of society in smaller towns and villages thereby taking the hospital services closer to their doors
At present Comtrust group hospital units are functioning at Ottapalam Thalassery and Kanhangad Efforts are on to establish one unit in Kalpetta Wayanad in association with Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Muttil With the base hospital at Calicut and other smaller hospitals in different centres the Group as a whole is able to serve the people of North Kerala effectively
About Comtrust Eye Hospital
Recognizing the long felt need for a full fledged speciality eye hospital in the Northern districts of Kerala State Comtrust Charitable Trust decided in the year 1988 to set up one such hospital in Calicut city which was the capital city of erstwhile Malabar
The hospital which began in a very small way in the year 1999 has during the last nine years established its presence as the most popular and fully equipped Eye Hospital in the whole of Malabar Today over 500 patients are registered on an average daily and more than 8000 surgeries are done every year at this hospital
During the last 3 years efforts were made to set up smaller hospital units in other smaller towns in North Kerala Three such units are already established at Thalassery Kanhangad and Ottapalam Besides hospitals small Sub Centres are functioning at 3 remote locations viz Muttil Wynad Wandoor Malappuram and Narikunni Kozhikode District
