Description
Inaugurated in 1985 Aravind Theni is the first satellite hospital of Aravind Eye Care System Situated along the Western Ghats 80 kms west of Madurai it serves an area within a 50 km radius covering a population of 42 million including the Kottayam and Idukki districts in Kerala It has facilities to accommodate 123 free and 40 paying patients The hospital is outfitted with the latest equipment including phaco and YAG lasers for cataract and minor eye surgeries The hospital provides preventive rehabilitative and promotive services through comprehensive eye care services through a unique project launched with support from Sight Savers AravindTheni also contributes to the development of eye care delivery by serving as a tangible model for the delivery of rural hospital services to visiting eye care workers from around the world AravindTheni handled 196281 outpatient visits and performed 11648 surgeries from April 2010 March 2011
