History

Our beginningscan be traced back to the Catherine Hayes Hospital at Randwick which cared for destitute children from 1870

In 1964 we became the teaching hospital for the University of New South Wales The goal of our founder Professor John Beveridge was that Sydney Childrens Hospital then named Prince of Wales Childrens Hospital would be a place where caring for children was what mattered most

Since the early 90s Sydney Childrens Hospital Randwick has undergone an enormous amount of change to cater for increases in patient admissions and changes in community needs

In 1994 a dedicated redevelopment program began which cost 465 million of which 10 million was donated by the general and corporate community

We provide the highest quality of comprehensive medical services for the children and families of NSW and beyond The quality and extent of the work conducted here ensures we are recognised nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence for child health

We have a full range of specialist services which treat children with many conditions including cancer trauma HIVAIDS congenital abnormalities disabilities heart disease and respiratory disorders

In 2003 we opened our new community child health precinct on the Randwick campus corner of Barker and Avoca Streets The centre accommodates our community health services including services for children with developmental disabilities mental health disorders and other behavioural issues
