About Shodair Childrens Hospital
Shodair began as a home for orphaned and abandoned children in 1896 As Shodair evolved to meet the needs of Montanas children it became the first facility in the state to treat children with polio the first facility with a department of medical genetics and the first with a chemical dependency unit dedicated to adolescents
For more than 114 years Shodair has stayed in step with the everchanging needs of Montanas children Shodairs medical specialists develop programs that meet our mission of providing for the care and treatment of children suffering from illness diseases and other physical mental and emotional conditions that impair their health and wellbeing
Mission
Shodair Childrens Hospital is a nonprofit Montana corporation whose purposes shall be
To establish and maintain a hospital and other appropriate facilities for
care and treatment of children suffering from illnesses diseases defects
and other physical mental and emotional abnormalities which impair the
health and wellbeing of children which may be justified by the facilitys
personnel functions or other requirements that are or can be made
available
To promote and carry on scientific research related to the care of the sick
and injured
To participate so far as circumstances may warrant in any activity designated
and carried on to promote the general health of the community
History
Established in 1896 Shodair Childrens Hospital is a voluntary nonprofit nonsectarian specialty hospital that provides psychiatric inpatient services to children and adolescents and their families in the state of Montana and from other states Shodair also provides clinical genetic diagnostic and counseling services to families across Montana Shodair is located in the state capitol of Helena
Shodair enjoys a longstanding tradition of providing quality care to children and adolescents and their families An important component of the success of Shodair Childrens Hospital has been its ability to explore new services and to modify its programs to meet the needs of its patients and the community While Shodair was originated in 1933 as a community hospital it has evolved into a highly respected psychiatric and clinical genetics specialty hospital Current programs continue Shodairs tradition of providing quality costefficient care and services
