History
As we commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Providence Sacred Heart this year were taking a monthbymonth look at the events that have shaped our past
The names of Mother Emilie Gamelin the foundress of the Sisters of Providence and Mother Joseph who led the building of Sacred Heart are well known Neither of them however was the first administrator of the hospital
That claim belongs to Sister Joseph of Arimathea also known as Little Joseph The Sisters filled the top leadership role at the hospital from its beginning in 1886 until 1988 when Sister Peter Claver pictured above overseeing construction of the new hospital retired at that point the Sisters began hiring lay executives
While the Sisters numbers are dwindling their presence is alive and well in the carrying out the Providence Mission
