Like our whole system our downtown campus has been built with patients and families in mind The campus offers families and visitor several amenities including the tranquil Haggerty Chapel a cafeteria with multiple dining options family resource libraries Starbucks coffee shops ATMs and a fullservice gift shop Services such as child life guest relations pastoral care and social work help families address the unique concerns that come with having a hospitalized child

A new front entrance at Childrens makes it easier than ever for patients to access our stateoftheart pediatric care The covered fourlane driveway off Medical District Drive leads guests directly to the front doorstep of the hospital only a few steps away from the admitting area

History

Childrens traces its origins to the summer of 1913 when a group of nurses led by public health nurse May Forster Smith organized an openair clinic on the lawn of the old Parkland Hospital The nurses recognized that children received better care when it was focused only on them

The clinic grew into the Bradford Hospital for Babies which merged with Childrens Hospital of Texas and Richmond Freeman Memorial Clinic in 1948 to form Childrens Medical Center of Dallas

In 2008 we opened our Legacy campus in Plano to serve a greater number of patients in the area
