The Royal Sussex County Hospital was known as the Sussex County Hospital from 1828 the year it was built until around 1911 when the name was changed

The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton was originally built in 1828 and was designed by Charles Barry 17951860 hence the name of the main building being the Barry Building He later became the architect of the Houses of Parliament

The Jubilee Building was added in 1887 and the Millennium Wing was added in 2000

It also houses the new Audrey Emerton Building a medical education centre and library where 3rd and 4th year students are based It was opened by Baroness Audrey Emerton in 2005

The hospital provides general specialist and tertiary services including Cancer Services Sussex Cancer Centre Cardiac heart Surgery Maternity Services Renal kidney Services Intensive Care for Adults and Intensive Care for new born babies
