The Richmond Health Department is a community health centre that oversees health promotion and nutrtion hearing speech amp language therapy environmental health community care facilities licensing control of communicable diseases and primary care for child youth and families


History

During the 1990s as part of the health reform process in the Province of British Columbia the Ministry of Health delegated more authority to regions throughout the province to administer health services according to local needs

As part of this process the Richmond health region was formed under the governance of the Richmond Health Board in 1994

Following a further policy change in the health reform process some regions were merged with others and Richmond merged with Vancouver on April 1 1997 forming a new region under the VancouverRichmond Health Board

To start the process of bringing together the various health services under one administration and integrating operations The Richmond Hospital amalgamated with the Health Board and came under the governance of Richmond Health Services on May 1 1997 Click on this link for the hospitals history
