History

The HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley results from a union between two Kingston hospitals Benedictine Hospital and Kingston Hospital

In 2006 the HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley formed after recommendations from the Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century The Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century completed a review of the states health care capacity and recommended the restructure of New Yorks hospitals and nursing homes In a report by the Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century the commission cited a dual problem in Ulster County too many hospital beds and a large amount of outmigration In response the commission proposed a historic solution resulting in a new model of community health care Benedictine Hospital and Kingston Hospital were merged in order to
reduce duplicate services and outmigration

provide access to specialized services and amenities while enhancing clinical
technologies

enhance recruitment and retention of medical professionals and

enhance the financial viability of both organizations

Benedictine Hospital and Kingston Hospital were proactive throughout the process A year before the commission published its report the hospitals had drafted a memorandum of agreement that would establish a unified governance structure

Rather than a conventional merger the historic agreement resulting from the Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century established a realignment that created a parent corporation knows as HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valleyreg The goal of the locally governed health care network is to effectively integrate affiliated health care organizations and services across the continuum of patient care and thereby serve the present and future health care needs of all people in the region

The HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley system is comprised of Benedictine Hospital Kingston Hospital Margaretville Hospital Mountainside Residential Care Center and Woodland Pond at New Paltz
