About the Royal Liverpool University Hospital
The Royal Liverpool University Hospital RLUH was opened in 1978 and replaced several small city hospitals some of which had been established for over 150 years

It currently has over 50 wards more than 850 beds excluding day case and dialysis beds and has the main accident and emergency department for the city of Liverpool the largest of its kind in the country

The major acute services such as cardiology respiratory care general surgery and urology are based within the hospital together with regional and national specialist services in nephrology renal transplant renal dialysis ophthalmology haematology bone marrow transplant and vascular surgery For a full list of all the services we provide please visit our services page

Obstetrics gynaecology paediatrics community and psychiatry services are provided by other specialist Trusts
