Where We Come From
Celebrating 75 years
Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital celebrated its 75th anniversary of service to the Bitterroot Valley in 2005 The hospital was incorporated on December 18 1929 In 1930 Margaret P Daly widow of the Copper King Marcus Daly bestowed upon Ravalli County the fund
Hamiltons first Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital building stands on South Fourth Street In recent years it has been purchased by Ravalli County and remodeled for County offices It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places The original hospital had seven Physicians on staff along with sixteen registered nurses and 12 nurses aides The first births at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital were three babies born on July 3 1931 All three infants were given some form of the Daly names Daly Marcus or Margaret
The present hospital on Westwood Drive was built in 1975 and continues to bear the name Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital The facility opened with 48 acute care beds and 14 physicians The hospital now employs over 400 employees making it one of the largest employers in the Bitterroot Valley Over the years several additions have been made to the original 50000 squarefoot facility as well as remodeling inside the hospital An Administration wing Transitional Care Unit and Hospice unit have been added In 2003 the surgery department was expanded and renovated Clinics throughout the valley are operated in conjunction with the hospital
The hospital that opened its doors on July 1 1931 was a far cry from the stateoftheart facility Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital has become today
But now as in past years MDMH continues to provide quality health care to the community with extensive inpatient and outpatient services
