History

Red Cross nurse and World War I veteran Ruth Weeks Henry began providing the nursing and public health services that would become CHANS Home Health amp Hospice in Bath in 1931 She cared for the sick at home and conducted clinics for mothers and babies Nurse Henry retired from nursing in the late 1950s

In 1947 the Red Cross turned its attention to civil defense and disaster relief and the agency became a community driven nonprofit called the Public Health Nursing Association The agency went through a growth transition and expansion in 1973 and became the BathBrunswick Regional Health Agency

In 1978 the BathBrunswick Regional Health Agency was incorporated as CHANS Community Health and Nursing Services which continues today to build on the solid foundation established by Mrs Henry
