Description

When we became one of the countrys first foundation trusts in April 2004 the RDampE reaffirmed its reputation as a leading acute hospital trust We were also building upon a tradition of providing quality healthcare services for local people that goes back over 250 years

The RDampE provides acute hospital services to around 350000 people in Exeter East Devon and Mid Devon and offers specialist services such as cancer care plastic and reconstructive surgery orthopaedic surgery paediatric care and renal services to people living further afield in Devon Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Dorset and Somerset

Most of the RDampEs services including specialist units such as the West of England Eye Unit and the internationally renowned Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre are based at our main hospital at Wonford The new Centre for Womens Health encompassing maternity neonatology and gynaecology services relocated from the nearby Heavitree Hospital to a new purposebuilt unit at Wonford in June 2007 Heavitree Hospital continues to provide a range of outpatient services as well as accommodation for the Learning and Development team and the new Peninsula Medical School dental school

The RDampE also runs the Honeylands Childrens Centre for specialist assessment and support for children with special needs and their families the Exeter Mobility Centre providing orthotics prosthetics wheelchairs and special seating and the Mardon Neurorehabilitation Centre

Across these sites the Trust has more than 30 wards 20 operating theatres around 850 inpatient beds and 75 day case beds During the year 200506 we spent around pound275m and employed more than 5800 people to provide healthcare services for the communities we serve In that time nearly 3000 babies were born here over 62500 people attended the emergency department we cared for over 112400 inpatient and daycases and 253500 outpatients

In planning and developing services to meet the healthcare needs of local people the RDampE works closely with the South West Strategic Health Authority Devon Primary Care Trust Devon Partnership Trust mental health and learning disabilities Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust South Devon NHS Foundation Trust the West of England Ambulance Service Trust WAST and Devon County Council social services

The RDampE is a proud to be a partner in the Peninsula Medical School that links together the universities of Exeter and Plymouth with the local NHS
