History

People are at the heart of all we do
River Oaks Hospital opened on January 6 1981 with 100 licensed beds The hospital was built due to the efforts of 72 physicians who envisioned a new facility in which physicians would play a vital role in the administration Approximately 190 medical staff members were on board when the hospital opened The hospital was partially owned by outside investors until October 1986 when River Oaks Hospital purchased all stock for total individual noncorporate ownership

In August 1994 River Oaks Hospital acquired Womans Hospital This acquisition provided obstetrics womens health services and additional bed capacity for River Oaks Hospital In November 1994 River Oaks Hospital opened The Baby Suites the only LDRP familycentered obstetrical unit at that time in the Jackson area River Oaks Hospital currently operates with 160 patient beds

On October 29 1997 the Board of Directors of River Oaks Hospital and Health Management Associates Inc announced the definitive agreement to merge with comprehensive medical services a quickresponse emergency department and a convenient location in Flowood near downtown Jackson River Oaks Hospital serves as a major healthcare resource for the Jackson Metropolitan Area and central Mississippi
