Marian Community Hospital is an acute care Catholic Community Hospital sponsored by the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Scranton PA The hospital was formed 1992 by the coming together of the former Carbondale General and Saint Josephs Hospitals in a tradition of the healing ministry of the Catholic Church in order to serve the community The hospital is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of residents of the Northern Lackawanna Valley region and part of Susquehanna and Wayne Counties

History

History of the Hospital
The formation of Marian Community Hospital effective July 1 1992 marks a milestone in the preservation of quality health care and service to the people of the greater Carbondale area in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration the Boards of Trustees of both Carbondale General Hospital and St Josephs Hospital resolved to study and evaluate the best option available to offer health care to the community It was decided that the consolidation of the two hospitals would provide the most efficient health care delivery system The new Marian Community Hospital is housed in the former St Josephs Hospital

Marian Community hospital is a component of Maxis Health System which is sponsored by the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary The Board of Directors Medical Staff and employees are committed to providing quality health care and programs which contribute to the well being of the people in the communities which are served The contributions of the Auxiliary and numerous volunteers are an invaluable source of support to all of the works of the hospital

To strengthen the future of healthcare within the Carbondale Area Maxis Health System joined Catholic Health East a multiinstitutional Catholic health system based in Newtown Square Pennsylvania The System provides the means to ensure the continuation of the Catholic identity and operational strength of the sponsors health ministries which are located within 11 eastern states from Maine to Florida
