History

quotGrowing to Care for Youquot
Glendive Medical Center GMC has a history of service and caring which dates back to 1882 In 1965 the Northern Pacific Beneficial Association NPBA Hospital announced its intention to close A local campaign led by community businesspersons ensued to raise funds to purchase the hospital The NPBA agreed to sell the hospital to the community for 135000 On November 1 1965 it officially became the Glendive Community Hospital Plans and fund raising began to build a modern hospital which was occupied February 2 1969 The old hospital building was converted into a nursing home A new 75bed nursing home was built in 197576 with a full basement for future expansion

In the fall of 1985 the Board of Directors of the Glendive Community Hospital and Nursing Home embarked upon a major fund raising and development campaign to upgrade the medical facilities to attract providers and to accommodate patient needs With 400000 and a lowinterest loan the providers clinic was purchased and renovated and a dedicated intensive care unit was added to the hospital All this is to assure retention and recruitment of medical providers to establish the hospital as a highly competitive health care facility and to establish the GMC Foundation

As the Board Medical Providers and Administration of GMC look to the future they have completed the Facility Master Plan to identity the need of the medical center to begin an expansion project for a stateoftheart surgical suite As GMC continues to add and expand services it is necessary to be proactive in maintaining quality health care close to home

As the community medical center GMC continues to be dedicated to taking a leadership role in providing and promoting health and wellness in this region
