The Beginnings

Duncan Regional Hospital has a unique history Community commitment and support that led to the construction of a new 148bed hospital with primary funding coming from private and local business sources

The Planning

The provision of hospital services in Duncan changed dramatically on January 17 1977 when Duncan Regional Hospital Inc purchased all of the physical assets of three privately owned Duncan hospitals Lindley Hospital Medical Center Hospital and Physician and Surgeons Hospital

For many years these three forprofit institutions had aptly served the medical needs of the community However in 1975 community leaders realized that the healthcare resources of these small aging facilities were not able to keep up with the areas industrial progress

The Duncan Chamber of Commerce formed a task force to advance healthcare services and to recruit physicians to Stephens County In November 1975 this task force recommended that the three facilities be merged into a single nonprofit corporationa recommendation that eventually led to the formation of Duncan Regional Hospital Inc on January 17 1977

No single individual has ownership of Duncan Regional Hospital The hospital itself is the legal entity which wholly owns all of the assets of Duncan Regional Hospital and is a charitable notforprofit nonstock corporation
