History

OUR HISTORY

Brigham City Community Hospital celebrated its 25th anniversary in July 2001 To commemorate that event a history of the hospital titled quotStitches in Timequot was prepared by local author Sarah Yates She described more than 150 years of people caring for one another midwives assisting in childbirth and treating illnesses with tonics herbs and common household solutions

Numerous hospitals opened in Brigham City between 1906 and the early 1920s when Dr AD Cooley converted a home at Fourth South and Main into a hospital Bushnell General Hospital operated by the US Army from 1942 to 1946 had a role in developing penicillin and was well known for treating and rehabilitating amputees and blind patients Dr Cooley opened Cooley Memorial Hospital in 1935 The Call family purchased the hospital in 1946 and operated it as the only acute care facility in Brigham City until July 1976 when patients and staff transferred to the newly completed Brigham City Community Hospital built by parent corporation HCA

Dr Thomas F Frist HCA founder met with local physicians earlier in 1974 to review hospital plans Groundbreaking for the 50000 square foot facility was held the following year Twentyfive acres of land were then transformed from pasture to a 45 million medical care facility Throughout its ownership HCA has remained committed to ensuring that quality medical care is provided to the residents of Northern Utah in modern facilities

In return Brigham City Community Hospital has contributed millions of dollars in direct financial benefit to the community as reflected in local state and federal taxes paid salaries and wages capital funds reinvested charitable contributions uncompensated care public service volunteer hours and scholarships to local students who pursue advanced degrees in the healthcare professions

Dedicated physicians employees and volunteers provide personalized compassionate care Today the hospital is part of the sixhospital MountainStar Healthcare network in Utah all of which are owned and operated by HCA Brigham City Community Hospital is proud to serve its community
